The Cromwell Tree - Perthshire

A huge ancient sweetchestnut tree near Bridge of Earn. Taken at sunrise on a freezing cold winter morning. Having got up before dawn I spotted the potential in the sky and drove the twelve miles to this tree as fast as I dared on the ice roads. Despite appearances the tree is not dead and is sprouting new growth from around its base.
